Lambs mean a lot to me because they are a special gift to the world. A lamb is a young sheep. It is less than one year old and without permanent teeth. In the Bible, the people used the flesh of the lamb as food and the wool of the lamb to make clothes. Lambs were also used in the Bible for sacrifices. A sacrifice was a sign to God’s people of the washing away of their sins by shed blood.
Jesus was the special Lamb for God’s people. He had the precious blood and was a pure lamb without blemish and without spot.
The Bible often talks about lambs. These are my favorite passages. “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29. I like this verse because it shows that Jesus was the lamb that died for my sins. The other passage is “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” Isaiah 40:11. I like this verse because it shows that Jesus is the good shepherd who gathers His people like lambs into heaven.
