Welcome to the February issue of the Beacon Lights. I would especially like to welcome those who are reading the Beacon Lights for the first time, and encourage you to continue to read it, as well as the Bible, in the future.
Sarah Hanko, daughter of our missionary Rev. Ronald Hanko, gives us the first of a series of three articles. This article calls all, young and old, to be holy, for God is holy. Look in following issues for the next two articles on righteousness and knowledge. Paula Faber, a teacher at Heritage School in Hudsonville, Michigan, gives us the last article of our home rubric. It tells of a girl who makes a change in her life—a change which involves a more vigorous devotional life. Many of us can see ourselves in this story.
Rev. Gritters includes the first of a three-part article on Biblical marriage. This article, included in the dating and marriage rubric, was first given at a speech at Hope College for the Holland PRC Evangelism Committee. John Huizenga wrote an interesting, educational, and inspirational article on ants. He notes that Proverbs 6:6 says that we must consider the ways (notice the plural) of the ant, and gives some suggestions as to what those ways might be.
As the second part of his Church Family rubric, Tom Bergman included a poem about our hope of heaven. It requires two people to read, so find a partner and read the poem together. Dave Hanko wrote an article about the importance of the catechism class. This cannot be over stressed, for catechistic instruction is vital to the spiritual development of the youth of the church, those who will some day lead and rule God’s church. This month’s devotionals, based on the book of Proverbs, were written by Rodney Kleyn. Writing the devotionals takes a great deal of time and energy, so if you see Rodney, thank him for his efforts which are appreciated by so many.
The last part of Rev. Mahtani’s speech was inadvertently omitted and will be included in the next issue.
Don’t forget to notice the convention advertisement on the back of the magazine. This year’s convention will be held in South Holland, Illinois, and they hope to have a good turnout. Mark the dates on your calendar and plan to attend!
May God be with you in the coming month.
